Jobing Description

A.T. Still University of Health Sciences of Kirksville, MO is seeking a Vice President of Finance/CFO in the Finance department.  The VP for Finance/CFO advises and works closely with the president on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to human resources, budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and the securing of new funding. S/he is a corporate officer and is responsible for managing the personnel and financial resources, including risks and control systems, of the University. S/he is also responsible for financial planning, analysis of data, record keeping and financial and personnel reporting to the Board of Trustees. 

Candidates must have a commitment to the University's mission; be comfortable working with a wide array of personalities, both internally and externally, to achieve specific goals and objectives; must be a collaborative, innovative, entrepreneurial financial leader; be culturally and contextually astute with a knowledge of the higher education landscape; prudent but willing to take measured risks; integrity, confidence, energy, sound judgment, tact, and force of personality necessary to establish credibility to motivate people and command respect both within and outside of the University and have a sense of humor.

Skills / Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following skills and accomplishments:

  • 10+ years of progressive, directly related experience, preferably in higher education finance and business affairs
  • Seasoned and mature leader with broad finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership
  • Hands-on experience with high level, multi-year financial modeling and analysis, supporting strategic plans with multiple interdependencies and competing priorities
  • Analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
  • Broad portfolio of leadership accomplishments in progressively more senior management roles, preferably in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in forecasting, cost/benefit analysis, financial planning, budgeting and budget modeling, debt financing, gift and endowment management, tuition pricing, and human resources
  • Experience with tax exempt bond issues and related reporting requirements
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team management skills
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting with MBA or other advanced degree
