Job Description

The Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health (MOSDOH) is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Pre-Clinical Education & Simulation Clinic located in Kirksville, MO.  This position will report directly to the MOSDOH Vice Dean, Academic Affairs.

This position will oversee and ensure the effective operation of the MOSDOH simulation clinic to achieve the educational goals of the MOSDOH pre-clinical curriculum.  Major job duties include:

Simulation Clinic:

  • Oversee operations of the Simulation Clinic
  • Ensure (develop/modify/and/or maintain) sustainable processes for the MOSDOH Simulation Clinic, including processes regarding: Safety-related policies & safety monitoring; Student policies while working in the Simulation Clinic; Staff responsibilities; Coordination of pre-clinical course scheduling with laboratory space, supplies, staff, and faculty; Workflow/efficiency to create ideal simulated clinical training environment for students; Facility maintenance & service (via communication with ATSU Facilities); Equipment maintenance & service; Ordering and tracking of equipment and supplies to facilitate student coursework without delay to students
  • Prepare and monitor annual Simulation Clinic budget (including negotiation of large and/or multi-year contracts with vendors for student equipment and supplies
  • Supervise assigned staff and/or faculty
  • Serve on the Instruments & Materials Committee (evaluate continuity of materials/equipment between pre-clinical and clinical training)
  • Other duties as assigned

Pre-Clinical Education:

  • Ensure effective delivery of MOSDOH pre-clinical curriculum (serving as Course Director as applicable)
  • Instruct students in pre-clinical coursework and/or calibrate faculty to do the same
  • Monitor student progress in pre-clinical coursework; assess students’ readiness for clinical patient care
  • Assure coordination between pre-clinical and clinical sciences
  • Supervise assigned faculty and/or staff; evaluate and recommend staffing modifications as the program matures
  • Serve on Curriculum and Academic Progress Committees; serve on other school committees as requested by the Dean
  • Make recommendations for long-term program planning and improvement
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Requirements

A doctorate degree in dentistry is required with five to ten years experience in a dental teaching environment (including experience in both administration and teaching).  Additional training beyond dental school is preferred.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to self-direct and take initiative
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Highly skilled in general dentistry
  • Ability to instruct in dental science (pre-clinical) courses and/or calibrate and direct faculty to instruct students in these courses
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring of pre-doctoral students
  • Diplomacy is a must
