The Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health (MOSDOH) is seeking applicants for the position of Vice Dean of Academic Affairs located in Kirksville, MO.  This position will report directly to the Dean of MOSDOH.

Position Summary: 

Oversees the daily operations on the Kirksville campus as designated by the Dean.  The vice dean directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of the four-year pre-doctoral curriculum while overseeing the development and evaluation of post-doctoral dental program.  Directs, manages, and develops the areas of: discipline specific accreditation through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA); predoctoral student admissions; continuing education/faculty development; programmatic assessment; course assessment; support the ATSU Office of Academic Affairs on University-wide assessment efforts/projects; monitor and promote student academic progress and success.

Major Job Duites:

Leadership role

  • Promote leadership and structure in MOSDOH's Kirksville facility
  • Serve as mentor for faculty, students and staff and promote team building across MOSDOH
  • Consult with the Dean on operational procedures, policies and challenges
  • Ensure stability and team building in Kirksville and between ATSU/MOSDOH's employees
  • Represent the Dean in his absence
  • Promote organizational structure and integrity
  • Support and promote institutional effectiveness and MOSDOH's strategic plan
  • Support the Dean in all leadership roles within MOSDOH and ATSU

Predoctoral Curriculum

  • Assure development, maintenance and integrity of the integrated human systems pre-clinical and clinical curricula components of the pre-doctoral curriculum
  • Identify deficiencies, inappropriate overlap and inconsistencies in the curriculum effect appropriate corrections
  • Assure integration of public health and community dentistry principles across the curriculum including coordination with the ATSU/CGHS certificate in Dental Public Health
  • Enhance the quality of the MOSDOH curricula in coordination with internal and external partners
  • Report curricular activities to the Dean's Council and/or the Dean, as appropriate
  • Assure course management including course sequencing, course scheduling, syllabi approval and distribution, student assessment, approval and monitoring of course module grades, and instructor, course and curricular assessment
  • Promote the use of sound educational methodology in teaching, learning, and assessment

Other Job Duties

  • Manage program accreditation through CODA for the pre-doctoral and developing specialty programs
  • Monitor and promote student success and academic progress
  • Promote faculty development and continuing education
  • Assure curricular development and integrity of the post-doctoral programs approved by the ATSU Board of Trustees
  • Oversee annual student recruitment and admissions process
  • Advise school leadership on academic issues
  • Advise school leadership on strategic and long-range planning
  • Develop and implement major MOSDOH assessment efforts
  • Other job duties as assigned

Skills / Requirements

A doctorate degree (DDS, DMD, EdD) is required with five to ten years experience with programmatic and institutional accreditation; clinical and didactic education; operation of a dental school at the administrative level; teaching and learning in adult education; program evaluation; student services; and outcomes assessment.
