Job Description

The individual in this position is responsible for preparing all didactic material required to train first and second year medical students in the broad area of genetics and molecular biology. This is a teaching related position with expectations to participate in university and school of medicine committees and other service, and to pursue scholarly activity resulting in publications in academic journals.


Teaching (60%)

  • Prepare didactic material appropriate for first and second year medical students in the broad area of cell and molecular biology.
  • Present this material using a variety of delivery techniques including, but not limited to, flipped classrooms, clinical problem solving, workshops and podcasts.
  • Develop assessment tools to evaluate progress of the students and to prepare them for success on the COMLEX and USMLE boards.
  • Participate in course development with course directors and other faculty.

Service (20%)

  • Serve on SOMA and university committees as assigned.
  • Advise students on study strategies, preparation for board exams and application to residencies as requested.
  • Assist with interviews of applicants for subsequent classes.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs and organizations as requested.

Scholarly activity (20%)

  • Develop an area of interest/expertise and prepare a research program based on this area.
  • If appropriate seek internal or external funding for this scholarly program.
  • Gather and evaluate data. Prepare abstracts and manuscripts based on this work. Submit abstracts to professional meetings and present results.

Skills / Requirements

  • The successful candidate should have at least one year of teaching experience

  • Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology or related field
