Job Description

Arizona School of Health Sciences (ASHS) is one of several schools of A.T. Still University (ATSU) that also includes the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (founded in 1892), Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, and Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Established in 1995, ASHS is located in the city of Mesa within the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. ASHS consists of a variety of Professional and Post Professional education programs in the healthcare specialties of Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Audiology, Physician Assistant, and Occupational Therapy. Opportunities for interdisciplinary education and research are available and encouraged. As the founding school of Osteopathic Medicine, ATSU is committed to the integration of body, mind and spirit. Additional information can be obtained from our website at www.atsu.edu.

Three postdoctoral research fellowship positions are available within the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (DIHS). The areas of specialized training are: sport-related concussion, practice-based research, and clinical anatomy. A postdoctoral scholar is an individual who has received a doctoral degree and engages in a temporary and defined period of mentored advanced training to enhance their professional skills and research independence needed to pursue his or her chosen career path. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow training period in the DIHS at ATSU is part of the training of an educator and researcher in various areas of concentration.

Postdoctoral Research Fellows come to work with faculty mentors in the DIHS to further develop their teaching and scholarly competence. While no degree is offered, this period is nonetheless integral to preparation for a future academic career. Thus, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is not invited to work with a mentor simply to teach specific courses or to perform a specific research project, rather, a broad training program is mutually developed between the trainee and the mentor. Duration of the postdoctoral training period is variable, but is not intended for long-term, indefinite, or career appointments. Postdoctoral duration should take into account when the candidate is ready for the next step of a career pathway. The DIHS generally limits the postdoctoral period to a maximum of three years.
