To serve the underserved

ATSU serves as a learning-centered university dedicated to preparing highly competent professionals through innovative academic programs, with a commitment to continue its osteopathic heritage and focus on whole person healthcare, scholarship, community health, interprofessional education, diversity, and underserved populations.

Our vision is to be the preeminent University for health professions, a leading innovator whose graduates exemplify and support our mission, pioneering contributions to healthcare education, knowledge, and practice.

It began here

Andrew Taylor Still, DO, believed anyone could find disease, but finding health was the true calling of a healer. Dr. Still’s belief in treating the whole person–body, mind, and spirit–sparked a new path for healthcare professionals, and in 1892 he founded the original school of osteopathic medicine in Kirksville, Missouri.

Today, A.T. Still University of Health Sciences includes seven prestigious schools on campuses in Missouri, Arizona, and California, educating future healthcare professionals in a range of disciplines, grounded in Dr. Still’s osteopathic tenets.

Where We Work

ATSU-ASHS DMSc Program Manager

“Helping students reach their potential is my No. 1 goal. ATSU provides a learning and working environment that supports employees in fulfilling the goals of our students, while making contributions to healthcare education. I was drawn to ATSU because I knew I would be able to have meaningful and impactful relationships with the students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Graduation will always be my favorite event. It's a time for students and families to celebrate but also a time for employees to take pride in their hard work and dedication.”

ATSU Thompson Campus Center Manager

“I love working at the ATSU Thompson Campus Center because it gives me the ability to connect with people. I enjoy seeing our students, faculty, and staff stick to a program and reach their goals with hard work and dedication. Every day I get to witness someone making progress towards a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.”

Associate Professor, Assistant Dean of Preclinical Education & Simulation Clinic

"Moving to Kirksville and joining ATSU is the best decision I have ever made in my life. I have the privilege of contributing to a legacy that has been built over centuries, and that will continue to grow long after I have moved on. I am part of a community that is very diverse, friendly, and appreciative of contributions made by its employees. It is by far the best place I have ever worked. ATSU has provided me and my family with a future we will always be grateful for. I am not sure Dr. Still imagined his touch of others' lives would extend way beyond the scope of osteopathic medicine!”

Director of Didactic Education, CCPA Program, Principal Faculty, Assistant Professor

“ATSU is a place of teamwork, innovation, diversity, and being a part of molding the future of healthcare, as well as education. Throughout the University, faculty and staff alike are friendly and willing to collaborate with one another to help all individuals, programs, campuses, and the University be the best they can be. The teamwork here is tremendous. Having the opportunity to play a small part in so many future healthcare professionals' educational journey – people who I hope go out in the world and help better the lives of their patients through culturally humble, whole person healthcare – is something I do not take lightly and truly view as an honor and a privilege.”

Associate Professor and Practicum Director, ATSU-CGHS Public Health Department

“ATSU is a wonderful place to work as an academic. The administration truly believes in developing diverse and well-trained health care professionals, and supports all of the programs in doing that. Research and service are supported, but teaching is truly valued here as well. Personally, teaching online provides me with flexibility in my schedule, as well as an amazing opportunity to connect and help great students that are making higher education fit into their busy lives. I believe ATSU truly cares about the well-being of its faculty, staff, and students.”

Hometown Scholars Coordinator, Strategic University Partnerships

“Working for ATSU has been the best place of employment that I have been to. They make one feel like family and you can always count on anyone for help in any way. Plus, our connections to our health centers make me feel right at home!”

Director, Clinical Operations, St. Louis Dental Center

“There are so many things I love about working at ATSU-MOSDOH and the St. Louis Dental Center. I really admire A.T. Still, DO, and all of the things for which he stood. I feel like the University does a great job of carrying on his legacy of whole person healthcare. These values come out not only in the way we treat our patients, but the way we treat and care for our employees. I also love being a part of a team at the dental school. While the faculty educate our dental students, we all play a part in making them successful and I take great pride every time I watch them walk across the stage to receive their degree.”

Assistant Professor, Director of Curriculum, DPT Program

“I feel extremely fortunate to have found what I consider to be my dream job as a faculty member at A.T. Still University. My role at ATSU allows me to bring together my passions of helping individuals improve their function and quality of life through physical therapy and helping students progress towards their careers to achieve the same goal. I have made the greatest strides in my professional development with the mentorship, support, and opportunities afforded to me as a member of the ATSU community. I have leaders and colleagues who I trust and with whom I enjoy collaborating. I feel valued for my role in and contribution to the department, school, and University.”

Director and Assistant Professor, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, St. Louis Dental Center

“If you look nationally, and even internationally, the number of universities with a strict focus on health sciences is very low. ATSU has always devoted its expertise and expanded the health sciences, which is very impressive. The benefit is you can focus a lot of attention to the healthcare field and be devoted to research, grants, funding, education, and delivering healthcare to the masses and underserved communities. That’s something I feel pretty proud about being associated with.”
