Job Description

The individual in this position is responsible for preparing and presenting didactic material required to train first and second-year medical students primarily in the field of immunology and medical microbiology. This is a teaching-focused position with expectations to participate in university and school of medicine committees and other services and to pursue scholarly activity that can be peer-reviewed and widely disseminated.


Teaching (60%)

1) Collaborate with other SOMA faculty to prepare and present didactic material appropriate for first- and second-year medical students in the field of immunology and medical microbiology

2) Continuously improve teaching effectiveness by exploring delivery techniques such as flipped classrooms, clinical problem solving, workshops and vodcasts

3) Review and facilitate the delivery of Harvard HMX-immunology pre/post matriculation modules for first-year osteopathic medical students

4) Develop assessment tools to evaluate the progress of the students and to prepare them for success on the COMLEX and USMLE

5) Work with other faculty and course directors in developing integrated content delivery using best-teaching methods and quality review cycles

Service (20%)

1) Serve on SOMA and university committees as assigned

2) Advise students on study strategies, preparation for board exams and application to residencies as requested

3) Assist with interviews of applicants for subsequent classes

4) Serve as an advisor to student clubs and organizations as requested

Scholarly activity (20%)

1) Develop an area of interest/expertise and prepare a research program based on this area

2) If appropriate, seek internal or external funding for this scholarly program

3) Gather and evaluate data, prepare abstracts and manuscripts based on this work. Submit abstracts to professional meetings and present results
