Job Description

The Assistant/Associate Professor is responsible for development and delivery of educational content to SOMA standards across the curriculum as assigned (lab, large- and small-group formats). This position will work collaboratively with the SOMA team to develop, implement, and refine the curriculum and will be involved in the delivery of both on-campus and distance education to all levels of medical students.  This position may serve as course director for one or more student courses and contribute to research and scholarly activities. 


  • Serve as course director on assigned course(s) to include: prepare syllabi book lists and objectives; prepare assignments using applicable technology for the online and classroom teaching; work with staff to place all appropriate material on management system in a timely fashion; assume assigned role in test preparation and administration; participate in text selection or other teaching modalities; assess student progress in course, prepare and submit final grades, communicate with students’ faculty advisors
  • Serve as an academic advisor to SOMA students by following advising protocols
  • Counsel students needing improvement in academic or professional performance
  • Curriculum development – clinical medicine
  • Curriculum implementation and refinement
  • Small- and large-group facilitation
  • Clinical and/or medical education research as part of the team
  • Assist with standardized patient program and medical simulation
  • Other duties as assigned by Chair of Clinical Science Education, in keeping with the purpose of the school 

Skills / Requirements

    • Must be a DO or MD, board certified 
    • Recommended to have a minimum of three years’ experience 
    • Must have practice of clinical medicine – preferably primary care
    • Must have experience teaching clinical medicine
    • Recommended to have experience in curriculum development 
    • Recommended to have experience in delivery of distance education via Learning Management Systems, e.g., Blackboard
